Prayer
Yahweh (God),
Thank You for being a God who never stops pursuing Your people. Long before we sought You, You were calling us. Long before we understood Your ways, You patiently revealed Your truth. Even when we wandered, You continued to invite us back with mercy, grace, and love.
Holy Spirit, quiet every distraction that competes for our attention. Open our eyes to see what You are revealing, soften our hearts to receive Your Word, and strengthen our wills to respond in faithful obedience.
Teach us not to become hearers only, but doers of Your Word. May every time we open the Scriptures become another opportunity to know You more deeply, trust You more completely, and walk more faithfully with Yeshua (Jesus).
May our lives always remain teachable, humble, and attentive to Your voice.
In Yeshua’s (Jesus’) name, Amen.
Introduction
One of the greatest demonstrations of Yahweh's love is not simply that He speaks.
It is that He keeps speaking.
Throughout Scripture, we see a God who continually reaches toward His people.
He calls.
He warns.
He teaches.
He comforts.
He corrects.
He invites.
Again and again.
Not because He delights in discipline.
But because He delights in restoration.
Jeremiah's ministry reveals this beautiful truth.
For twenty-three years he faithfully proclaimed Yahweh's message to Judah.
Year after year.
Warning after warning.
Invitation after invitation.
Yet the people continued living as though Yahweh had never spoken.
The tragedy was not that God had become silent.
The tragedy was that His people had stopped listening.
That same challenge remains today.
Many people wonder if God still speaks.
Scripture answers that question clearly.
He does.
Every time we open His Word, the Author of life speaks.
The question has never been whether Yahweh has a message.
The question is whether we have hearts willing to receive it.
Listening to Yahweh is far more than hearing words.
It is allowing His truth to shape our lives.
Every invitation to repent...
Every reminder of His promises...
Every correction...
Every encouragement...
Every page of Scripture...
is another expression of His relentless love.
Every time Yahweh speaks, He is extending another opportunity to draw closer to Him.
That is grace.
Scripture Exploration (NRSV)
Jeremiah 25:3–4
"For twenty-three years... the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken persistently to you, but you have not listened. And though the LORD persistently sent all His servants the prophets to you, you have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear."
Notice the repeated word:
Persistently.
Jeremiah spoke persistently because Yahweh loved persistently.
This passage reveals the extraordinary patience of God.
Before consequences came...
Mercy came first.
Before discipline...
Invitation came first.
Before judgment...
There were years of opportunities to return.
Yahweh's heart has always been to restore His people before they experience the consequences of rejecting Him.
Amos 8:11–12
Amos speaks of a famine—not of bread or water—but of hearing the Word of Yahweh.
The greatest spiritual poverty is not the absence of information.
It is the absence of hearts that hunger for God's truth.
Every opportunity to hear His Word is a gift of grace that should never be taken for granted.
Isaiah 32:3
"Then the eyes of those who have sight will not be closed, and the ears of those who have hearing will listen."
Spiritual maturity begins when hearing becomes responding.
Yahweh desires more than informed minds.
He desires transformed hearts.
Jeremiah 35:18–19
The Rechabites became an example of faithful obedience because they consistently listened and responded.
Their blessing reminds us that obedience is not about perfection.
It is about a willing heart.
Colossians 3:2
"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."
A listening heart begins with a focused mind.
When our attention remains fixed upon Yahweh, we become more sensitive to His leading.
Amos 7:8
The plumb line reminds us that Yahweh's Word is not simply meant to inform us.
It measures our lives, lovingly aligning us with His truth.
Isaiah 38:9–20
After receiving Yahweh's mercy, Hezekiah paused to reflect.
Gratitude deepened his relationship with God.
Reflection often helps us recognize how faithfully Yahweh has been speaking throughout our lives—even in moments we did not fully understand.
Deep Dive
One of the most comforting truths in all of Scripture is that Yahweh is patient.
Human patience has limits.
God's patience is astonishing.
Jeremiah did not proclaim God's message for twenty-three days.
Or twenty-three weeks.
Or even twenty-three months.
He faithfully spoke for twenty-three years.
Imagine how many opportunities the people were given to return.
Imagine how many invitations to repentance they heard.
Imagine how many mornings Yahweh extended mercy instead of immediate judgment.
That reveals the heart of our Father.
He is never eager to abandon His people.
He is eager to restore them.
Every warning in Scripture carries an invitation.
Every correction carries hope.
Every conviction offered by the Holy Spirit is evidence that Yahweh is still drawing us closer.
His correction is not rejection.
It is love.
His discipline is not cruelty.
It is mercy.
Because the greatest danger is not that Yahweh stops speaking.
The greatest danger is that our hearts slowly stop listening.
And yet—even then—He continues calling.
That is the extraordinary grace of Yahweh.
He still speaks.
The question that remains is beautifully simple:
Will we still listen?
Relatable Scenario
Imagine receiving a phone call from someone you deeply love.
The first time your phone rings, you answer immediately.
The second time, you answer again.
But over time, life becomes busier.
The calls come while you're working.
Driving.
Watching television.
Scrolling through your phone.
Eventually, you begin thinking,
"I'll call them back later."
Days become weeks.
Weeks become months.
The voice hasn't stopped calling.
You have simply stopped responding.
Relationships rarely disappear all at once.
They slowly drift through neglected conversations.
Our relationship with Yahweh can experience the same quiet drift.
The problem is seldom that God has stopped speaking.
The problem is that our hearts become crowded with so many other voices that His becomes easier to ignore.
Work begins speaking.
Fear begins speaking.
Culture begins speaking.
Social media begins speaking.
Our own desires begin speaking.
Before long, we become experts at hearing everything except the One voice that gives life.
Yet Yahweh never stops calling.
Every morning His Word waits to be opened.
Every prayer becomes another invitation into His presence.
Every sermon...
Every quiet conviction...
Every Scripture remembered throughout the day...
Every unexpected reminder of His faithfulness...
is another gentle call from a Father who refuses to stop pursuing His children.
Core Message
Yahweh's desire has never been merely to communicate information.
His desire is relationship.
He speaks because He loves.
He corrects because He cares.
He warns because He desires restoration.
He teaches because He longs for His children to walk in wisdom.
The purpose of Scripture is not simply to fill our minds.
It is to transform our hearts.
Knowledge alone does not produce spiritual maturity.
Obedience does.
Many people know Bible stories.
Far fewer allow those stories to shape how they live.
The believer who grows is not necessarily the one who knows the most Scripture.
It is the one who continually responds to the Scripture they already know.
Listening is completed by obedience.
Hearing becomes fruitful when it changes the way we live.
Life Stories
Throughout Scripture, Yahweh continually pursued ordinary people with extraordinary patience.
Noah listened and built.
Abraham listened and followed.
Samuel listened and answered,
"Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening."
David listened and repented.
Mary listened and surrendered.
The disciples listened and left everything to follow Yeshua.
None of them responded perfectly.
Yet each one possessed something Yahweh continues to seek today:
A heart willing to listen.
Even Peter, after denying Yeshua three times, discovered that failure did not silence God's voice.
After the resurrection, Yeshua lovingly restored him and entrusted him with caring for His people.
That is the heart of Yahweh.
He continues speaking because He continues loving.
Common Experiences
Every believer experiences seasons when listening becomes difficult.
Sometimes life becomes noisy.
Sometimes disappointment clouds our hearing.
Sometimes success distracts us.
Sometimes pain causes us to question what Yahweh is doing.
Other times we become so familiar with Scripture that we read it without truly expecting God to speak.
These experiences are common.
But they do not have to become permanent.
Every new day offers another opportunity to quiet our hearts and listen again.
Everyday Challenges
Listening to Yahweh requires intentionality.
It means choosing Scripture before distraction.
Prayer before panic.
Reflection before reaction.
Obedience before convenience.
Trust before understanding.
It also means slowing down enough to recognize when the Holy Spirit gently convicts our hearts.
Many of Yahweh's greatest conversations happen in quiet moments.
He often speaks softly because He desires relationship rather than performance.
The challenge is not learning to hear a louder voice.
The challenge is creating a quieter heart.
Modern Connections
Today's world has never been louder.
Notifications compete for our attention.
News cycles demand immediate reactions.
Entertainment fills every silent moment.
Opinions arrive from every direction.
We have more information than any generation before us.
Yet many people feel spiritually exhausted.
Jeremiah's message feels remarkably relevant today.
The danger is not simply hearing many voices.
The danger is allowing those voices to become louder than Yahweh's.
His Word remains steady.
His truth remains unchanged.
His invitation remains open.
Every time we choose to open the Scriptures instead of endlessly scrolling...
Every time we pause to pray before making a decision...
Every time we obey what we already know...
we remind our hearts who deserves the loudest voice in our lives.
Yahweh still speaks.
His Word has not lost its power.
His Spirit has not stopped working.
His invitation has not expired.
He is still calling His people to Himself.
The question remains the same as it did in Jeremiah's day:
Will we still listen?
Reflection & Application
Take a quiet moment and ask yourself:
-
When Yahweh speaks through His Word, how do I respond?
-
Have I become satisfied with hearing Scripture without allowing it to change me?
-
What distractions have become louder than God's voice in my life?
-
Is there an area where the Holy Spirit has been gently calling me to obedience?
-
Have I mistaken familiarity with the Bible for intimacy with Yahweh?
-
What is one step of obedience Yahweh is asking me to take today?
This week, make a simple commitment.
Before asking Yahweh to reveal something new, respond faithfully to what He has already revealed.
Read His Word slowly.
Pray honestly.
Listen carefully.
Obey willingly.
Remember that spiritual growth is rarely found in receiving more information.
It is found in faithfully responding to the truth Yahweh has already spoken.
Every act of obedience prepares your heart to hear Him even more clearly.
Closing Prayer
Yahweh (God),
Thank You for never giving up on us.
Thank You for Your incredible patience, Your persistent love, and Your unfailing mercy.
Forgive us for the times we have allowed distractions, busyness, pride, or fear to drown out Your voice.
Create within us hearts that remain soft toward Your Word.
Teach us to treasure every opportunity we have to hear You speak through the Scriptures.
Holy Spirit, help us become believers who not only hear Your truth but joyfully live it.
Give us the humility to receive correction, the wisdom to recognize Your guidance, and the courage to obey even when it is difficult.
May our lives become living testimonies of people who continue listening because You continue speaking.
Keep our hearts attentive until the day we stand before Yeshua (Jesus).
In His holy name,
Amen.

Key Takeaway:
Yahweh has never stopped speaking.
The question is whether we are still listening—and faithfully responding.
Concluding Thoughts:
One of the most beautiful truths throughout Scripture is that Yahweh is always the One who initiates the conversation.
Before Adam searched...
Yahweh called.
Before Moses answered...
Yahweh spoke from the bush.
Before Samuel recognized His voice...
Yahweh called his name.
Before Jeremiah ever became a prophet...
Yahweh knew him.
Before Peter was restored...
Yeshua called him back.
Again and again, we see the same loving pattern.
Yahweh speaks first.
He pursues first.
He loves first.
He restores first.
That same invitation continues today.
Every time you open your Bible...
Yahweh speaks.
Every time the Holy Spirit gently convicts your heart...
Yahweh speaks.
Every time Scripture encourages, corrects, comforts, or strengthens you...
Yahweh speaks.
Do not take His voice for granted.
Do not become so familiar with His Word that it no longer moves your heart.
Remain teachable.
Remain humble.
Remain attentive.
Because a faithful life is not built by hearing God once.
It is built by continually listening...
continually trusting...
continually obeying...
and continually walking with Him.
Yahweh still speaks.
May we never stop listening.
Amen.
