Prayer

"Heavenly Father, thank You for the way You work through every season of our lives, breaking us where needed so You can restore and transform us for Your glory. Help us to see Your hand in our struggles and trust in Your plan, even when it’s difficult. Teach us to reflect Your grace to others as You work in and through us. Amen."

Introduction

Have you ever experienced a season in life where everything seemed to fall apart, leaving you broken and unsure of how to move forward? In those moments, it’s easy to feel abandoned or overwhelmed, but what if Yahweh is allowing the breaking so that He can rebuild us into something stronger, more aligned with His purpose?

Yahweh’s work often involves breaking down the parts of us that rely on our own strength so that He can fix us in His grace. This transformation is not easy, but it is always for our good and His glory.

Scripture Exploration

Joshua 24:3

"Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac."

Joshua recounts Yahweh’s sovereign work in Abraham’s life. Before Yahweh called him, Abraham lived in a family that worshipped other gods (Joshua 24:2). Yet Yahweh chose him, led him, and blessed him with offspring, fulfilling His promises.

Abraham’s journey was not without challenges—he faced barrenness, uncertainty, and testing. Yet Yahweh used those moments of breaking to build Abraham’s faith and accomplish His divine plan.

This pattern of being “broken to be fixed” is not unique to Abraham. It is a common theme in the lives of Yahweh’s people, including ours.

Deep Dive: Brokenness in Scripture

1. Abraham’s Breaking and Blessing

  • Before Yahweh fulfilled His promise of Isaac, Abraham faced the breaking of waiting and uncertainty. His faith grew through the process, teaching him to rely on Yahweh’s timing and power (Genesis 15:1-6).

2. David’s Broken Heart

  • After his sin with Bathsheba, David experienced the breaking of guilt and conviction. His heartfelt repentance in Psalm 51 shows how Yahweh used his brokenness to restore him to a place of deeper humility and reliance on Him.

3. Yeshua’s Invitation to Brokenness

  • Yeshua said, “Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily” (Luke 9:23). Brokenness often involves surrender—letting go of our own plans and strength to embrace Yahweh’s greater purpose.

Relatable Story: Brokeness and Restoration

Imagine a time in your life when everything felt overwhelming. You carried the weight of your problems and even tried to fix the struggles of those you cared about, relying on your own strength to hold it all together.

But no matter how much effort you put in, things didn’t improve. Instead, the pressure grew until it became too much to bear. Eventually, you found yourself broken—not just by the circumstances but by the realization that you couldn’t solve everything on your own.

In that breaking, you turned to Yahweh. You chose to step back from the busyness of life—social media, constant activity, even friendships—and sought Him. In the quiet, He began to reveal a new perspective. You saw that the struggles you once thought were insurmountable were never about you fixing them. They were about Yahweh drawing you closer to Him, teaching you to rely on His strength instead of your own.

Through this process, Yahweh began to fix what was broken. He didn’t simply repair what was damaged—He transformed it, creating something stronger, deeper, and more aligned with His purpose.

Modern Connections

Today’s world often pushes us to carry more than we’re meant to. The pressure to “have it all together” can leave us feeling drained and broken. Social media portrays perfection, relationships become strained under expectations, and we often take on more than we can handle, thinking we can solve every problem on our own.

But what if those moments of exhaustion and breaking are invitations from God to let go and lean on Him?

  • Imagine someone juggling a busy career, family, and personal struggles, trying to manage everything perfectly but secretly feeling like they’re falling apart. They finally realize that stepping back and surrendering control to God is the only way to find true peace.

  • Or think of someone who’s been trying to fix a broken relationship, doing everything they can to make it right, but nothing changes. Only when they entrust it to God do they see healing and transformation—first in their own heart, then in the relationship.

God doesn’t want us to carry these burdens alone. He uses the breaking to draw us closer to Him, showing us that His strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). In those moments, He invites us to lay down our pride, our fears, and our need for control so that He can reshape us into something new.

Core Message

God allows seasons of breaking not to harm us but to heal us. Like a potter reshaping clay, He uses these moments to transform us into vessels that reflect His glory. Our brokenness becomes the starting point for His restoration, teaching us to rely on His strength and grace.

Life Stories:

  1. Biblical Example: Peter’s Denial and Restoration

    • Peter’s denial of Jesus left him broken and ashamed, but Jesus restored him with grace, commissioning him to “feed My sheep” (John 21:15-19).

  2. Modern Example:

    • A single parent feeling overwhelmed by financial and emotional stress finally surrenders their burden to God in prayer. Over time, they see God’s provision in unexpected ways—through community support, a renewed sense of peace, and healing in their family relationships.

Common Experiences

  • Feeling overwhelmed by struggles that seem beyond your ability to fix.

  • Experiencing distance in relationships or with God.

  • Discovering God’s strength in the midst of personal weakness or failure.

Everyday Challenges

  • Challenge: Trying to fix everything on your own.

  • Response: Reflect on Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

  • Challenge: Feeling abandoned in moments of breaking.

  • Response: Pray for God’s presence and remember His promises: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

Reflection & Application

  • Reflect: Where in your life have you experienced brokenness? How has God used those moments to teach, heal, or transform you?

  • Apply: Identify one area of your life where you need to surrender control to God. Pray for His guidance and trust Him to fix what is broken in His perfect timing.

Closing Prayer

"Father, thank You for breaking us where needed so You can fix us in ways that only You can. Help us to trust in Your plan, even when it’s difficult, and to rely on Your strength instead of our own. Teach us to see Your hand in every challenge and to reflect Your grace and love to others. Thank You for Your faithfulness in restoring us. Amen."

Further Study:

  1. Jeremiah 18:1-6: The potter and the clay.

  2. Psalm 51: David’s prayer of repentance and restoration.

  3. Romans 8:28: God works all things together for good.

Concluding Thoughts:

God’s work in our lives often begins with brokenness. In those moments, He lovingly reshapes us, teaching us to trust Him and reflect His grace. Whatever you are facing, remember that God is faithful, and His purpose is always to heal, restore, and draw you closer to Him.

Brokenness gives the believer the opportunity to refocus our lives and attention to the plan and timing God has for us. Through His Grace and Mercy our faith gets stronger, we become more Christ like, relying on Him when facing afflictions in life. There are seasons in life when we all need to be fixed, but God's way and His time is always the best, and as believers we must put our trust in Him. (Won't he do it)
